Club Social Special - Nautical Archaeological Society Talk

October 30th, 2024

For our October Monthly Club Social, we were delighted to welcome the Nautical Archaeological Society (NAS) to the Welwyn Sports & Social Club for a talk on the workings of the NAS.

Mark Beattie-Edwards, CEO and Sara Hasan, long-time member of NAS and Secretary of the NAS Diving Club drove all the way form Portsmouth for the evening to present.

Mark told us how the NAS operates and Sara explained how she had became involved many years ago and now was one of the few Trustees of a UK Protected Wreck.

Mark and Sara also explained how non-NAS divers are welcome to join expeditions and help out with surveys and other on-site work on wrecks around the UK.

The talk was well attended and very well received by club attendees - many of whom expressed interest to get involved.

To that end, the club committee is considering taking up Mark's offer of running a Taster Session on a pool night over winter and then looking towards running open water courses on the NAS sunken wreck in Stoney Cove and even a protected wreck day trip organised just for our club next year...
