Become part of our friendly diving community
Once you are in a position to commit to continue to learn to dive with us, there are 4 things you will need to do:
We operate a monthly Direct Debit system via GoCardless. The trainee rate of £25 per month includes £10 to use the club equipment whilst you are an Ocean Diver trainee.
While you are paying the training rate, the club will endeavour to make available to you all the equipment that you require to train in the pool and open water. However, the club has a limited selection of wet/drysuits and cannot guarantee availability of these. If the club is not able to loan you a wet/drysuit, you may need to provide your own to progress your training in open water.
Once you have qualified as an Ocean Diver (down to 20m depth limit), we would expect you to start to get your own SCUBA equipment — we will of course advise you on this when the time comes. At that point your membership drops to the £15/month qualified diver rate.
To join BSAC:
We will be notified when you have joined BSAC.
For your theory sessions you will need to sign up to independent eLearning (an online training platform allowing you to take lessons digitally). More information is available on the BSAC training page, or speak to the training team for guidance.
Please note that this purchase comes with a code which you will need to register your qualification when you complete the course.
We have pool sessions at Hatfield every Wednesday 9pm-10pm, plus a local open water venue (11m deep) at Arlesey, just north of Hitchin. We then progress to other inland venues that vary in depth between 20m and 35m.
We live a way from the coast but regularly have trips (1 day, 2 day, long weekend or week long), as well as trips abroad, normally week long. Check the calendar for planned trips.
We hope that you can commit your time to come regularly to the pool training sessions and theory sessions as and when required by you and by mutual agreement with your instructor. The length of your training to achieve Ocean Diver (and higher grades) will depend on your availability and how quickly you pick things up.
Already qualified with PADI, SSI, RAID, GUE or another agency and have your own SCUBA kit? Great — joining is simple:
No cross-over training required. If you've been out of the water for a while, we're happy to offer refresher sessions. See our existing divers page for more info.
As a club, we take the safety of all our members very seriously and especially the safety of children. We have adopted BSAC's BuddyGuard safeguarding policy.
The club's Welfare Officer is Sue Howes. If you are registering on behalf of your child and have any questions about your child's safety or welfare, please contact Sue via safeguarding@midhertsdivers.com.
Training your child to scuba dive will inevitably involve some physical contact between the instructor and your child. If you are ever concerned please do contact Sue.
In order to assist us in the proper care of your child we do insist that an appropriate adult (such as a parent or guardian) is present at all training, whether at the pool or when we are away diving.
